In parliament, Google has threatened to remove search from Australia if they are forced to pay local publishers for news search results if this new law is passed.
This dramatic situation has been escalating now for many months.

The proposed law is intended to compensate the local media industry, including Rupert Murdochs News Corp. Many of the media industry has struggled to adapt to the digital economy and feel they are losing out.

The friction on this situation is getting worse “We don’t respond to threats,” Australia Prime Minister Scott Morrison said Friday. “Australia makes our rules for things you can do in Australia. That’s done in our parliament. It’s done by our government. And that’s how things work here in Australia.”
This law will not just affect Google but other tech giants like Facebook and many others for news content.
