The Education System Is Broken. Here’s How We Fix It with BRAVE Thinking, AI, and VR

What If We’re Still Teaching Kids for a World That No Longer Exists?

We are. And it’s costing us dearly. Education is supposed to prepare students for the real world. But when the classroom hasn’t evolved in over 100 years and the world outside changes every 100 days we’ve got a problem.

In my recent TEDx talk, I made the case that the future of education must be human-centred and future-proofed powered by AI, VR, and a framework I call BRAVE. This isn’t about adding tech for the sake of it. It’s about closing the dangerous gap between what students learn… and what life demands.

From Obsolete to Optimised: The BRAVE Framework

Right now, we’re rewarding obedience in a world that demands adaptability. We’re teaching compliance when the future demands creativity, empathy, and leadership. To rebuild education from the ground up, I developed the BRAVE Framework a practical, neuroscience-informed model that empowers both students and educators in the age of AI and rapid change.

Build Curiosity

“Learning doesn’t start with answers it starts with wonder.”

We need classrooms that spark questions, not just deliver facts.
🧠 Neuroscience shows curiosity triggers the dopamine loop boosting memory, focus, and engagement.
📖 Gary the Snail wasn’t a lesson plan but he became one when a child asked, “What does he eat?”

Reframe Failure

“In a VR Apollo 11 simulation, students learned more from crashing than landing.”

Let’s turn mistakes into momentum.
🧠 Safe failure lowers cortisol and increases dopamine enhancing learning, not shutting it down.
📖 In VR, failure becomes feedback. And students keep going because failure feels safe, not shameful.

Amplify Empathy

“I didn’t know it would feel like that.”

That’s what one student said after stepping into a VR Civil Rights experience.
🧠 Mirror neurons light up when we feel someone else’s experience.
📖 Empathy is a human superpower. We should be teaching it daily.

Value Creativity

“A shy student found her voice on a virtual TEDx stage.”

Creativity isn’t a soft skill it’s the skill.
🧠 Creative thinking taps into the default mode network and releases oxytocin boosting innovation and motivation.
📖 Let’s replace tests with projects that let students imagine, build, and lead.

Empower Educators

“She went from burnout to brilliance in a matter of weeks.”

That’s what happened when one teacher used AI and VR to reimagine her role.
🧠 Burnout shrinks the brain’s executive centres. Purpose and autonomy rewire motivation pathways.
📖 Technology should amplify teachers not replace them.

What Happens If We Get This Right?

  • Students become bold, curious problem-solvers.
  • Teachers become innovators again.
  • Classrooms become the launchpad for real-world readiness.

And education finally catches up to the world it’s meant to serve.
