“Control and Power” – Google threatens to remove search from Australia

Recent Posts

‘Control and Power’ Google is behaving like a corporate bully, said Johan Lidberg, an associate professor at Melbourne’s Monash University.

In parliament, Google has threatened to remove search from Australia if they are forced to pay local publishers for news search results if this new law is passed.

This dramatic situation has been escalating now for many months.

You might be asking why?

The proposed law is intended to compensate the local media industry, including Rupert Murdochs News Corp. Many of the media industry has struggled to adapt to the digital economy and feel they are losing out.

If this goes ahead it’s going to be a massive shock to Australian Search and how business is conducted with at least 94% of all online searches going through Google’s companies.

The friction on this situation is getting worse “We don’t respond to threats,” Australia Prime Minister Scott Morrison said Friday. “Australia makes our rules for things you can do in Australia. That’s done in our parliament. It’s done by our government. And that’s how things work here in Australia.”

This law will not just affect Google but other tech giants like Facebook and many others for news content.

As an Australian business owner, you need to know the RISK to you.

What if this does happen and the law is passed and Google and Facebook pull out? Will my business still survive?

Use these 5 questions below to make a start and analyse your business to look at the risk.

– Do I have more than 80% of Traffic to my Site from Google?

– Do I rely on Facebook for my business?

– Do I mainly use platforms like Google and Facebook for Paid Marketing?

– Do I Need to have a plan B and C for different marketing Channels?

If you have answered YES to more than THREE or more of the above then you are in a High-Risk Category of your business failing.

Do something about this today and start creating a Plan B and C so you are protected no matter what decisions are made by Google, Facebook or any other major network.
